Scholarship Info:
Beloved founding NATIA member Carter Richardson chaired the NATIA Scholarship program for decades. Upon his passing in 2019, the NATIA Executive Board voted to rename this successful program in his honor.
The merit-based scholarship is a $5,000, one-time cash award. A minimum of two scholarships will be awarded annually and will be recognized at the NATIA 2025 Opening Session.
Who Is Eligible
The dependent children of any active or retired member of a NATIA chapter who is in the twelfth grade or enrolled as a full or part-time student in an accredited college program, or any active member of a NATIA chapter who is in an accredited college program may apply for the scholarship.
Application Process
The candidate should complete the application on the Scholarships page and in addition submit:
- Two letters of recommendation, one from each of the following:
- School or community official
- A law enforcement official (supervisory for current NATIA members)
- A 250-word (minimum) essay on “What significance I place on technology in law enforcement investigations”
- The candidate’s high school transcripts or college transcripts if the candidate is attending an accredited college

The completed application and additional documents must be received no later than June 26, 2025 and should be sent to:

Selection Process
The selection process will be conducted by a panel of highly respected, longstanding NATIA members at NATIA 2025. Recipients or their representative will be notified at the event or soon thereafter.
