Basic Networking and IP Cameras

Hands-on IP Surveillance Training

Basic Networking and IP Cameras

NATIA’s Certification Program invites members to attend a specialized hands-on training focused on the proper component selection, implementation strategies, and configuration of IP-based surveillance systems. These systems are easily deployable, easily monitored, and capable of being recorded remotely. Participants learn the techniques necessary to select, configure, deploy, and troubleshoot IP-based camera systems while working with the latest technology used by investigative agencies today. Equipment discussions include IP cameras, routers, wired and wireless communication solutions, servers, and video management software. Because the fundamentals of IP networking remain consistent across most platforms, the skills learned in this course can be applied to many types of equipment and operational environments.

Hands-On Training Experience

This course combines classroom instruction with practical exercises that help participants build confidence deploying and managing surveillance systems in real investigative scenarios.

Students gain experience working with:

    • IP camera systems
    • Networking equipment and routers
    • Wired and wireless communication devices
    • Server and recording platforms
    • Troubleshooting real-world system issues

Prior IP networking experience is not required, though basic computer knowledge is helpful. Students often progress at different speeds depending on their prior experience, and collaboration between instructors and participants frequently continues after the course to support real-world deployments.

Equipment & Technology

Training focuses on current and emerging technologies used in surveillance operations. The concepts taught allow investigators to adapt their knowledge across manufacturers and different investigative environments.
Participants will work with professional-grade equipment used in the field.
Students will receive a camera and cellular-capable router to take back to their agency for future operational use.
