NATIA Certified Technical Investigators
Become a NATIA CTI & earn Specialized Certifications
The CTI Program was created in 2005 to establish and maintain up-to-date standards in the law enforcement technical community. Active, regular members are eligible to complete the process to become a NATIA CTI and earn specialized certifications.
In order to become a CTI, members must meet eligibility and membership requirements, pay an Application Fee (which covers the first three years of certification), and successfully pass the CTI Exam. CTI’s must renew their certification every three years. To qualify for recertification, CTI’s must maintain current membership, submit a recertification fee, and complete required Professional Development Training (PDT) hours over each three-year period.

In-Demand Knowledge
CTI’s have demonstrated a basic knowledge of audio, video, electronics, tracking, and telephony. The technical community regards this knowledge as essential in today’s challenging law enforcement environment.
Standards of Excellence
The CTI Guidelines and Reference Manual show employers what skill sets are needed to become a CTI. Certification reflects a standard level of skills and expectations needed to perform effectively.
Comprehensive Experience
Taking the training or having the experience needed to challenge the CTI exam exposes the member to all the aspects of our industry and puts us all at an even starting point.
Improved Employability
CTI certification is an asset to list on a resume. There are some situations where certification has enhanced the CTI’s salary. Some agencies are now requiring certain personnel to become NATIA CTI’s.
Increased Collaboration
When working with other agencies, CTI’s will know they are working with a person of similar knowledge and an immediate level of trust can be developed.
